partition problems

Hi,
Mounting /dev/hda2 or /dev/hda6 to backup my
hard-drive fails. /dev/hda7 mounts OK.

Running fdisk I get:

Command (m for help): p

Partition 6: head 255 greater than maximum 16
Partition 7: head 255 greater than maximum 16

Hda1 is WindozeXP; the rest is Debian Sarge (ext3)
both of which appear to be running OK.

I first noticed the problem when reinstalling Debian
Sarge from a Linux Format DVD. I deleted all
partitions (apart from hda1) and reinstalled with
separate partitions for root and home. But the problem
persisted.

What can I do to correct this situation?

Cheers,
David
