hcfpcimodem_1.08full_i386.deb Fails With SegFault Using 2.6.15-1-686 And gcc-3.3.5

The modem drivers install on 2.6.8-2-686 using
gcc-3.3.5 but not on 2.6.15-1-686 recently installed. I installed gcc-4 as indicated by the dpkg
output but the error stays the same. It also appears I
have no devfs and can't start it(see output below)
even though it's in lilo.conf to mount it on this
kernel. I've just read the devfs man, gcc bug repots
and man, etc and find, besides a lot of bugs in gcc,
no useful help. I read somewhere that the deb kernels
are not defaulted to install devfs but 2.6.8 did. Dont know how to fix this. It seems that there are
several issues/bugs with this latest kernel related to
Linuxant's latest hcfpcimodem drivers. gcc -v shows
3.3.5. The 2.6.15 kernel installation disabled modem
drivers on my 2 older kernels and had to reinstall
with new driver package to get back online.
Appreciate any help on this issue as I'm stymied. Plz
copy my email address-not subscribed.
Happy to provide any info not shown on the message
output below:
