greetings to you all!

bought very cheap a creative audigy sound-card: chip(set) *ca0106*. as a sarge-user i discovered debian_alsa under kernel 2.6.8-2-k7 doesnot have this driver.

so i downloaded, compiled and installed alsa-lib, version 1.0.11rc2, and the appropriate alsa-utils and tools.

so far so good: the sound_output is way better than the of the AC97-codec.

*but* when i try to record sound (speech) with sound-recorder i cannot get sound out of the playback of the produced *.wav-files (homne/steef/wav, /home/steef/wav_1) with sound-recorder. in alsamixer i have correctly put on the IEC958_knob and the mic_input as well as *capture*.

i know this could be a problem of a beta-driver or something like that and i gonna put this question/problem too on the alsa-list. *but....maybe some of you can help me out??? and tell me what i did possibly wrong*

Just dnldd. that lib and the ca0106 version on it is identical to what 2.6.15-ck1 has: I will recompile the kernel with that module in it and try it again.

Will let you know.

hugo,

a white paper label on my audigy-card says: *SB0570*
and, on the second line N10225.
i tried the card out, to discover the exact chipcode, on a hd with slackware 10.2. together with some googling i came on *ca0106* (unknown on slack10.2 too).

your bad sound-quality with another kernel:
indeed! there were some troubles with the ouput_soundquality. this seems to be fixed in the drivers on alsa version 1.0.11 release cand. 2. see the changes from rc1>> rc2 on the alsa.org site.

maybe more inportant: i did *not* have to recompile my kernel. i followed the instructions on the alsa.org site: ...i decided to take the other choice: to put *alsa-driver-1.0.11rc2.tar.bz2* in /usr/src/alsa. of course after i did as # mkdir /usr/src/alsa. && before this processus i got rid of the installed debian-packages on my machine (sorry folks!)

on that way i now have since yesterday a working creative_audigy sound_card.

*but*, sad but true, sound-recorder still does not give *wav-files with sound on my machine!!!

at last: i am indeed very curious for the results of your exercise with this sound_card: especiaaly, of course the sound-quality.

good luck!,
met vriendelijke groet,

steef
