I hope you get a more complete answer, but with PartImage, you also have to do 
something regarding superblocks or something similar, otherwise the OS sees 
only the copied over part.

The long way, if you have an extra drive, is to copy the files over to another 
drive, reformat the big one, and copy back.

I know there is some other fix because I asked about the same problem.  If I 
remember, PartImage has a mailing list and if you search the archives, you 
can find the answer someone gave me.  I would think a search for PartImage 
and terms like size or "partition size" would provide an answer.  It may have 
a lot of false hits, but I remember the problem being specifically related to 
PartImage.
