Recent posts on debian-isp and other lists discredited the Adaptecs way to
much for me to ever touch them.
Get 3ware instead, it is top-notch instead of middle-level like adaptec. And
the adaptec aacraid drivers for Linux and BSD are quite broken I am told, so
you don't want to depend on them either.
Or you could get LSIlogic (MegaRAID), for a less expensive but still quite
good RAID.
That said, watch out for crap sold as hotswap bays, the hotswap bay quality
is *extremely* important. If you can, get a SAF-TE bay and SAF-TE aware
RAID controller, they will be top-notch hardware.
