The mdz repository is no longer being used. The current development has recently moved to the marillat repository:

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sid main

I don't know of a good howto specifically for Debian. I use the documentation on the mythtv site, as there's not much specifically debian involved to do.
