Hi I have an old compaq computer, when it had Fedora on it I could do a

I have since upgraded to Debian, the problem is that pressing the power
button no longer shuts the computer down.

Load the acpi kernel module, install the acpid Debian package. Your
computer will shutdown nicely whenever you press the power button.

I installed acpi and acpid and it now does the 'shutdown' when I do a short press of the power button.

Thanks for all the help.
