What I have in mind is a way of storeing "tricks of the trade" in an easily
searched fashion. Mostly it will see retribal type operations, with just
the ocasional new tip inserted.


If your needs are not that stringent, you may want to consider a couple
of things:

1. A monolithic HTML page that can be text searched.  Depeding on the
amount of information you need to index, this could be a problem.

2. Setup your site in a Google-friendly way and let them index it.  Then
all you need is a Google search box on the front of your site that has a
radio button below it that defaults to "yoursite.com" to limit the
search reults to only your own site.
