its scary, but maybe

apt-get --purge remove linux-image-2.6-686

which should get all three of them and then

apt-get install linux-image-2.6-686

IOW, start over?

I faced this with the recent yaird/2.6/14 breakage and as scary as it 
seems to remove the whole kernel, it doesn't break unless you reboot 
before you reinstall. ;)
