Sarge and Burning with TEAC DW-552G
Hi all:
This is going to be a long email, but I wanted to include all of the
related output that might be helpful. Please bear with me, as this is my
first post to the list.
I have two separate boxes with fresh installs of Sarge on both. Both
machines have TEAC DW-552G DVD/CDRW combo drives in them. When I run
lshw, the related output is:
*-ide:1
description: IDE Channel 1
physical id: 1
bus info: ide@1
logical name: ide1
clock: 33MHz
*-cdrom
description: DVD reader
product: TEAC DW-552G
physical id: 0
bus info: ide@1.0
logical name: /dev/hdc
version: N4K1
capabilities: packet atapi cdrom removable
nonmagnetic dma lba iordy audio cd-r cd-rw dvd
configuration: mode=udma2
Both machines will play music CDs, work with data CDs, and operate as
DVD players, but they won't burn when I try to burn a CD-R or CD-RW
using K3B. I know both will burn using other distributions, such as
Libranet and Fedora, however, it is now my preference to use Debian on
all my machines.
I have tried running K3B as root, since I recall a problem with the
2.6.8 kernel and burning as a non-root user, and that did not alter the
situation. I have installed kernel-image-2.4.27-2, and get the same
results. The debugging output from K3B (as non-root user) is:

Among the things I have tried are:
- lowered the speed to 2X, 4X, etc.
- installed the 2.4.x kernel-image from apt-get
- starting k3b as root
I found one thread on the list related to this model, but there wasn't a
response that had any solutions:

Can you all please help me with what I need to do to get these drives
functioning as burners? If there is additional information that I can
provide from my systems, please let me know how to extract it.
Thanks very much,
Clint
