I'm CCing you so you won't miss my reply the way I missed your question

I needed to put:

module "orinoco_cs" opts "ignore_cis_vcc=1"

in /etc/pcmcia/config.opts

and my /etc/network/interfaces has:

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet dhcp
      wireless_mode managed
      wireless_essid any
      wireless-enc off

As far as I remember the correct module will be loaded by the existing 
files in /etc/pcmcia.
