Well, i did the following

mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=0 --raid-devices=5  /dev/hda3
/dev/hdb1 /dev/sda1 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1

mkfs.ext3 /dev/md0

An entry in /etc/fstab to mount  the array on /backup

Will try putting them in start up.
