   2. all updates and packages were installed with synaptic
   3. I go to a site  that uses Realplayer - i try to download - open
with /usr/bin/realplay
       nothing   
  4. I downloaded package mplayer-k6 , not mplayer-nogui - I expect to
find a gui.
  5. my current theory ( could change at any moment )  is that something
is in the wrong
      directory.
