#chown -R mysql.mysql /var/lib/mysql

/#etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld start

# chown -R mysql.mysql /var/lib/mysql

In the default debian mysql instalation, server creates socket in
/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
