The (relevant) output of
# cat /etc/fstab
is:
/dev/cdrom /cdrom iso9660 ro,user,noauto 0 0

and the file /dev/cdrom is a symbolic link to /dev/hda

The output of
# grep CD /var/log/dmesg
when booting with old kernel (2.2.20) on a rescue diskette (created when installing Woody vanilla) is:
hda: CD-540E, ATAPI CDROM drive
hda: ATAPI 20x CDROM drive, 128k cache
Uniform CD-ROM driver Revision: 3.11

while I get no output when booting with the new kernel (2.4.27) installed with:
# aptitude install kernel-image-2.4.27-2-686-smp

Best regards,
Marco Ballini
