So, this has been bugging me for a while now, and every time I think I found a solution to this problem it goes and breaks again. It used to be that when I went into the /etc/mail directory and made changes to the access file then typed make, the access.db file would be updated and I could then reload sendmail. It seems now with Sarge that it does not do this update, if I do a make access.db, the access.db file is updated correctly, but I have to be explicit about it.
