DOTDEB Apache2 / PHP5 / MySQL4 Packages

Hello,

I am not sure if this list supports dotdeb.org packages, but I have
been going around in circles with this problem for days. I would
greatly appreciate some help.

At first, I added the dotdeb.org package list to be
/etc/apt/sources.list file, used apt-get to install Apache2, PHP5, and
some modules/libs. All was well, until I tried using a preg_* function
in PHP. The problem was that I did not have the PEAR library installed
for this functions. After hours of trying to get this installed,
someone recommended that I use a different source.

Fast forward about a week and it still is not working. This is what
happened in my latest attempt to get it working:

=======================

Apache2 is installed, http://localhost loads up the little 'Welcome to
Apache' page, but when I try to load a PHP file, a download window
pops up. In /etc/apache2/apache2.conf, there is nothing loading the
PHP5 module (I have no idea why). However, there is a line with
AddType for .php and .phps filetypes.

I am not really sure what is going on, I have purged, reinstall,
reconfigured, etc. so many times that I really don't know what stage I
am at. I would appreciate any suggestions or idea. I would, however,
not appreciate suggestions regarding my usage of PHP5. This is not the
php-general debate forum.

Thanks a lot. You guys are my last resort (besides reinstalling Debian..),
