Hi everyone.
I'm wondering if it would be possible to suspend a machibne using
ACPI, as we used to do with "apm -s" using APM..
I've tried with klaptop_acpi_helper, and it just hangs my computer...
I also tried with "echo 1 > /proc/acpi/sleep" and it works, but there
is no way to wake up the machine again!

Suspend can be achieved by patching the kernel using a patch from
http://www.suspend2.net/

After patching and recompiling, you can apt-get hibernate script and make it
to handle suspend functions.
With hibernate script you probably can suspend the system without having to
patch and compile the kernel but I haven't tested it.

Except that suspend2 patches the console portion of the kernel, so if you are already patching that, because the Linux kernel is multiple keyboards (and vt's) ignorant, you are out of luck with suspend2.

What is the problem with suspend that it does what the OP describes?
