Over the last few days i've done some tests. I removed the top case of
the external CD drive enclosure. So now the drive is exposed directly
to the air, rather than being covered by an extra piece of metal.
Previously after ripping a few discs, the drive enclosure would feel
slightly warm to the touch. Without the enclosure, the drive itself
stays cool even after ripping several discs. I haven't had any more
errors. So i believe the problem was the drive overheating. Until i'm
done ripping my collection, i'll just run the drive with the drive
enclosure open since it seems to work now.
