hostname in logfile?
Why would the logs change the hostname after a reboot? Here's what an
archive /var/log/messages file looks like:
Jun 17 17:15:39 localhost exiting on signal 15
Jun 17 17:17:04 merlin syslogd 1.4.1#17: restart.
The strange thing is the hostname isn't even "merlin". There's no
reference to "merlin" anywhere. I don't think the box has been
hacked.
On my other debian boxes, some use "localhost" while others use
`hostname`. Why the discrepancy here? Thanks for any insight.
