Hi Stephen,
if you use apt-get or the like, I suxsspect that the later version will
remove the older version as they might 'conflict' or the older might
'replace' the newer. The easiest way around this is to download the
newer version with out apt-get. The bigger questions would be why you
want to do this? Also, you may want to ask this question on the
debian-devel or debian-mentor mailing list if you want to get help with
working on a debian package.
