maximal size of root partition with Sarge installer

I installed Sarge using a CD. Guided partitioning limited the
root partition to 732 MB. This is the result of fdisk -l.

Disk /dev/hda: 2111 MB, 2111864832 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 256 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1   *           1          89      714861   83  Linux
/dev/hda2              90         256     1341427+   5  Extended
/dev/hda5              90         103      112423+  82  Linux swap
/dev/hda6             104         256     1228941   83  Linux

Can anyone explain the basis of the 732 MB limit?
Can the partition be enlarged with parted?

Thanks,        ... Peter E.
