Alsa Support for Soundblaster Live 24 Bit?

I installed the SoundBlaster Live! 24 Bit pci card and booted up with a 
2.6.8 kernel with support for the EMU10K1 (SB Live! & Audigy, E-mu APS) 
cards.

alsaconf says no supported PCI card found

less /proc/asound/cards says no soundcards

BUT

lspci says Multimedia Audio Controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS

What is wrong?
