unicode troubÃ?le
Hallo there
first the naive question: is there a unicode metapackage that I am only
to blind to see?
some details: I tried to switch my system from ISO-8859-1 based locales to utf-8.
now I experience some strange behaviour in terminals, mutt, emacs, some
gnome apps, etc.
they all seem to try to use unicode (except emacs...:-( ) but fail to
display some characters.
the testfile
http://melkor.dnp.fmph.uniba.sk/~garabik/debian-utf8/HOWTO/download/UTF-8-demo.txt.gz
displays completely correct in my terminal, but when i load it into
emacs it dosen't even try to show unicode...
mutt on the other hand replaces every special character with a dotted
box when the terminal is set to utf-8 mode. as soon as I set the
terminal back to ISO-8859-1 german umlauts and such are displayed
correctly.
I am a little confused as to why it works in some apps and dosen't in
others. even terminal based ones.
thanks
mlo
