You need to download the  libstdc++-libc6.1-1.so.2 file from the web.

All the way at the bottom of the page. Then you might need to create a symlink
with the name that matlab installer looks for if it's not the same as the
file you download.

It is probably better to download the libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1 package from
Woody here:

http://packages.debian.org/stable/oldlibs/libstdc++2.9-glibc2.1

You can install it in Sarge/Sid with dpkg -i <filename> and there are no
dependency issues with it.  I keep it around for the occasional time I
need to run Netscape4 and it works fine.
