I continue to have problems with a flashing Dell
flat panel monitor. After trying various modelines failed to improve
anything, and the fact that the problem exists in the console, not just X, I
decided to try the proprietary ATI driver. It reportedly fixes some
flashing screen problems.
I downloaded the driver rpm and then installed
alien. Alien made a deb package, and then I tried to install with dpkg,
with this error:
Luke:~# dpkg -i

don't want to screw up my overall package management!
