if your aim is to assign some kind of permanent internat address to your laptop,
you may to consider to use a dynamical IP:
see, for instance, the ddclient package.

You don't.  The DHCP client sends out a broadcast and it will be picked up by
any DHCP server on the local net.  The client will generally use whatever it
gets given by the first such server to respond.
