Thank you Kevin. Adding Marillat's source to sources.list made me download the codec pack.Unfortunately the problem of the "scrambled" video output persists. Maybe I will boot to XP (would be the first time in a month or so) to ensure that at least under XP they show OK.
It's possible that the file is 'encrypted'. Bart
