I have a NEC DVD_RW ND-2510A (firmware version 2.16). I have been planning to upgrade to FirmwareV2.17, but have gotten around to it. But my problem doesn't seem to the firmware related as the write wrote around 10DVDs form the same box without any problem.
On further inspection of the DVD I found that there is a small spot on near the outer circumference of the DVD where there were not "write" circles made by the writer. I think that is a manufacturing defect. I called up Benq and the person agreed to send me 15 DVDs as a replacement :)
