Jonathan,

I used to do it this way too.
This is not necessary anymore, just use the debs produced by Pavel in the
directory I mentioned in my earlier post. The debs can be installed with
dpkg --install *.deb
so you do not need the force anymore.
The debs co-exist with an official debian install of OO stable.

Furthermore you can use the status quo which is already two builds beyond 
the beta release (m84)
