I used to have Bellsouth (where the IPs changed as frequently as every 2
minutes) and never had my machine be out of touch for more than a few minutes.

True.  However, now, I now have BSC and they charge $50 + for a static IP
(in addition to what you pay for the actual DSL service).  Not really worth
it IMHO.
