trouble with startx -e startkde

hi debian users,
until recently, kde was fine. i was (and still am) using startx -e
startkde to start it. my default is gnome. but startx -e startkde
starts and shuts down in the same breath..

a first few lines of message that scrolls hastily reads like this:-
_XSERVTransSocketOpenCOTSServer: Unable to open socket for inet6
_XSERVTransOpen: transport open failed for inet6/debian:0
_XSERVTransMakeAllCOTSServerListeners: failed to open listener for inet6

beyond this, i dont know how to capture more messages, it comes and
goes in such a haste. and interestingly, this trouble is only for
normal user mode. for root however, startx -e startkde has no problems
in firing up kde.

any suggestions/ideas/helps? please,..

thanks in advance
VAP
