is where I got this from. It was the "unofficial" port of sylpheed to
gtk 2. Since then the guy that's developing sylpheed has ported his own
branch to gtk2 which is numbered 1.9. It's still considered beta. It's
available I think from the sylpheed project page:

I don't know about debian packages for these.
