Bug when log-off from graphical session

Hi,
I found a critical bug but I cannot really know which package it is related to.
As stated on Debian web site, I ask for advice...

I can investigate / give more details if needed, but some testing procedure may
help me to go straight to the point. I'm neither a newbie nor a developper...
So if anyone can help...

Effect :
When I close graphical session (KDE, Gnome), the DM (GDM / KDM) is not run
again, and the whole system crashes.

Reproductible :
Always with Sarge 2.6 kernel ; Never with Sarge 2.4 kernel

Cause :
I added a second network card. (?)
I used Mandrake before (10.0, 10.1) with no problem, with a no-name network card
(dmfe). Problem appeared on Mandrake when I added a second card: D-Link
(via-rhine). So I moved to Debian and had the same problems ; stable was ok,
testing with 2.6 kernel is not anymore and has same symptoms.
It seems now that the problem still exists when I remove the D-Link card (Mdk or
Debian).

Details :
Initial DM work perfectly, initial Gnome/KDE session also. The problem appears
when I log-off.
Apparently, Gnome PostSession script is run when relevant.
Screen is shut down shortly (1 sec), and as far as I know, DM should take the
screen back on, but the computer just stops (monitor complains about low
frequency, but it seems network cards are desactivated also).
No log in /var/log/messages.
Keyboard desactivated ("num lock" still lights LED on/off during some seconds,
and then stops).

On my side, I can live with 2.4 kernel for the rest of my computer's lifetime.
But I presume investigating this will be useful for all.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
M.C.
