yes, I have tried
$dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
in fact, I did it again, just for good measure, but still it hangs...
I just saw something though, that I'd noticed before, but didn't link to anything up until now. When xfree86 doesn't
hang right away, I move the mouse over the icons in the kicker, and each time a new icon zooms in (default X
accelerations) the screen would glitch horizontally... not quite sure how else to explain it, maybe a hiccup or a spasm
on the screen at a particular horizontal position.
I'm am at a loss for causes of this problem. Should I try an older driver? Should I completely redo the system, and
not use 'testing', but stay in stable? (which means I don't have mtop, but if that gets the machine running, I'd be for
that...)
Could this be an actual hardware fault? Should I go out and buy a cheap vid card (fx5200) and see if that changes any
performance over my mx420?
