Hi, thanks for your help.

After running alsaconf, everything runs fine (I was pretty sure that I
had already tried it, but I must be wrong): mpg321 plays music (default
settings are already ok), alsamixer runs, and the Gnome Volume Control
shows only two tabs (i.e., the non empty ones) instead of four.

However across a reboot, the correct settings get lost. It comes back to
no sound and four tabs, and I must run alsaconf again.
Can you please tell me how to make the alsaconf settings persistent?
