I have a PIII 500mhz running KDE and I'm quite happy with. 3.3 is a
lot snappier than 3.2.
Also see to it that you running a low latency kernel.
I have to admit however that I use KDE mainly as WM and do most of my
work in non-KDE apps. emacs, screen, firefox.
