Once messages were unfrozen, the error messages are:
... R=smarthost T=remote_smtp_smarthost defer (-53): retry time not reached
for any host
after exim_tinydb, no more freezeups but:
...R=smarthost T=remote_smtp_smarthost defer (110): Connection timed out
These occurred repeatedly for each message as send was retried.
The /etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf file is:
/etc/exim4/update-exim4.conf.conf
#
# Edit this file and /etc/mailname by hand and execute update-exim4.conf
# yourself or use 'dpkg-reconfigure exim4-config'
dc_eximconfig_configtype='smarthost'
dc_other_hostnames=''
dc_local_interfaces=''
dc_readhost='my.domain.net'
dc_relay_domains=''
dc_minimaldns='false'
dc_relay_nets=''
dc_smarthost='provider.domain.net'
CFILEMODE='644'
dc_use_split_config='true'
dc_hide_mailname='true'
[I placed dummy domain names for illustration. I go thing working by changing
'smarthost' to 'internet'.
