CUPS usb printer problem

I run into this maybe once a month.

(installation details are at the bottom)

my kyocera laser printer (usb) cuts out and won't respond.
Restarting cups takes a very long time and the CUPS web pages don't show any problems with the cups system.

The only messages in my syslog are:
Dec 7 05:19:55 localhost last message repeated 2 times
Dec 7 05:20:00 localhost kernel: usb 1-1: control timeout on ep0in
Dec 7 05:20:26 localhost last message repeated 5 times

Power cycling the printer doesn't seem to help much...

So I'll try rebooting the entire cups print server.
Not the solution I had hoped for.
But rebooting the system works.

At this point I'll make the accusation that there is more of a problem with USB devices than with CUPS. But I never can tell with these things.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
