This simply means that you had one kernel on the system (perhaps as a 
result of the previous crashed install) and then you installed a new one.

If your current kernel is booting the system fine, then yes, you can 
remove the vmlinuz.old from the root, and the appropriate stanza from 
/etc/lilo.conf, and re-run lilo to get rid of it. There might also be an 
initrd.old in the root. These old files are probably symlinks pointing 
to their originals in /boot.
