Latest news on release date?

I've been out of touch for a while.

A couple of questions.

What's the latest projection as to the new release?

If I need to build a system before then, would unstable
be my best bet? Would this make the upgrade to the new release
the most ainless?

If that's the case, are there any issues I should be aware of
with the current unstable packages?
