Ok. I had the following line in in /etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf :

auxprop_plugin: sasldb

I also modified the /etc/init.d/postfix script. I had /etc/sasldb2 in 
the files list to copy to the /etc chroot jail.

It works nice now.
