Just what I was looking for!

Using "# mii-tool eth0", I can find the info I'm after without rebooting
(want to keep up the how-long-since-I-had-to-reboot record!).

Thanks to Pedro-Ángel and the others who suggested using 'dmesg'
after rebooting ...
