getting USB CDRW to work

Hi!

I am trying to get an external USB CD writer to work.

I bought an empty USB<->IDE case and it works fine for harddisks. With the
CDRW drive I can mount CD's with no problems. Unfortunately, cdrecord
doesn't recognize the drive as being a writable device.

The drive is a Lite-On LTR32123S. On connecting the USB device, the kernel
spits out these messages:
kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using address 4
kernel: usb 1-2: Product: USB 2.0 Storage Device
kernel: usb 1-2: SerialNumber: 00042222200000119603
kernel: scsi2 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices
kernel: Vendor: Revoltec Model: USB/IDE Bridge ( Rev: 0103
kernel: Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 02
usb.agent[3234]: usb-storage: already loaded
kernel: SCSI device sda: 331176 2048-byte hdwr sectors (678 MB)
kernel: sda: test WP failed, assume Write Enabled
kernel: sda:<7>usb-storage: queuecommand called
kernel: unknown partition table
kernel: Attached scsi removable disk sda at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0
kernel: Attached scsi generic sg0 at scsi2, channel 0, id 0, lun 0, type 0
scsi.agent[3260]: disk at /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:07.2/usb1/1-2/1-2:1.0/host2/2:0:0:0
kernel: UDF-fs: No VRS found

On 'cdrecord --scanbus', it detects:
        2,0,0 200) 'Revoltec' 'USB/IDE Bridge (' '0103' Removable Disk

and is unable to use it as a write device.

I am using 2.6.8.1 on a i386 architecture, running Sarge.

Any hints on this?

Thanks in advance!
Sebastiaan

The software box said 'Requires Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.
