I don't know if there are other reasons this can happen, but I used to
get this when I skipped the "make system bootable" step of Woody setup.
I'd boot the Sarge install CD, go into "expert setup", and look for
something like "Make System Bootable.", to recreate the contents of the
MBR.
But I've not done your particular set of tasks so I'm not 100% sure this
is right.
