CDROM permission problems Gnome 2.6

My problem is that I can't rip audio cd's logged in as an ordinary user
using sound-juicer, but I can logged in as root. I also can't write CDs
using nautilus CD burner

here is the output of the id command for user david
uid=1000(david) gid=100(users)
groups=24(cdrom),25(floppy),29(audio),100(users)

here are the device links and permissions (I have a scsi cdrom)
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root cdrom 4 2004-08-14 19:45 /dev/sr0 -> scd0
brw-rw----  1 root cdrom 11, 0 2004-06-05 20:05 /dev/scd0
here is the relevant line from my fstab
/dev/sr0    /cdrom  auto    ro,user,noauto  0 0
symlinking /dev/cdrom to scd0 did not help

I'm using progeny component linux kernel 2.6.7 and Gnome 2.6
any suggestions?

David
