Try `grep --help' for more information.
and "man grep" doesn't seem to have an "-o" option.

What version of grep have you got, and which version of Debian are
you using?

ii grep 2.5.1.ds1-3 GNU grep, egrep and fgrep

If you're using woody's version, then it won't have it, it seems.
There's plenty of other ways of doing it, mind.

Version: 2.4.2-3

Yep; woody. I'd _love_ to upgrade to Testing/Sid, but X in Testing/Sid breaks a SunBlade 2000 with ATI video card horribly (requiring a power off/on). (I hope that gets fixed by the time Sarge is released.)
