Good question.

(0) keeling /home/keeling_ COLUMNS=110 dpkg -l | grep ftp
[snip]
ii lftp 2.4.9-1woody2 Sophisticated command-line FTP/HTTP client programs
ii lukemftp 1.5-7 The enhanced ftp client.
[snip]

/etc/alternatives/ftp says I'm using:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root  17 Dec 23  2003 /etc/alternatives/ftp -> /usr/bin/lukemftp

"status" says:

   Passive mode: on; fallback to active mode: on.

How do you get ftp to say what it is? None of "ftp '-version|-v|--v|--V|--help|-help'"
do anything useful.
