I'm jumping late into this thread, so excuse me if I am off-beam,
but is it that you want to take a screendump of the console
(/dev/tty*)? If so:
setterm -dump -file ~/output.dump && \
col -b < ~/output.dump ~/screen.capture
Might help, although you'll find:
