RE: Problems running Jack
1. If youi want realtime for non-root, install the "realtime-lsm" package.
This installs and runs as a startup script, enabling realtime for gid=29
(audio--ou can edit this. There is an equivalent kernel patch to include this
module).
2. Use qjackctl. This will let you start, stop and configure jack. Use the
jackd, NOT the jackstart command.
3. Run OSS using applications "jacklaunch app". The app may now work with
jack. Otherwise, it will fail if jack is running.
4. Install the "xmms-jack" package to enable xmms to run using jack--otherwise
if will fail if jack is running. Caveat: xmms instances are stuck so simply
keep it around. Multiple instances will crash.
5. Jack is a problematic program. Qjackctl will let you turn it off and on as
required. Many games will work with jack, many willl not. Use jacklaunch and
try it. Many games will cause jack to kick itself out..
6. Arts will NOT work and trying it can kick out as well.
7. Joint the linux audio list Linux Audio Users
<linux-audio-user@music.columbia.edu>. This will have most pointers on jack!
